Introductions for Dissertation Camp 2017

Hello, everyone! I'm Heather Cooper and I just completed my Ph.D. in History this spring. I will be at UI next year as a Visiting Assistant Professor in History and Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies. I study African American history and my dissertation examines the role that African Americans played in shaping the white public's understandings of race and slavery in the nineteenth-century U.S., particularly when they constructed and performed their own representations of slavery for the public. During the Dissertation Camp this year, I plan to get started on an article based on one of my dissertation chapters.

I have attended the Camp two times before, as a dissertation-writer, and have participated in the ongoing Write-On program for about two years. Both were instrumental in helping me finish my dissertation and keep writing, one day at a time. I hope you find the programs just as helpful.
